Description
Here is one of the images from last year that I've finally gotten round to finishing. I was inspired for this piece after spending a whole day reading "Scandinavia and the World" comics made by the talented
It's personifications of the 4 countries of the UK (Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland) and the Republic of Ireland.
The UK countries are siblings who tend to bicker a lot.
England (Anglia) likes to be in charge, she can be a little self-centred at times, but by-in-large tries her best to take care of her sisters.
Wales (Cymru) is the most timid of the family, rather sheepish (pun intended) and likes to keep to her self and go along with what England says.
Scotland (Alba) also tries to be in charge, or at least tries to take care of her self. England tends to annoy her and the two bicker a lot as a result.
Northern Ireland (Ulster) Had enough of her sisters and now lives with her cousin, she too likes to take care of her self, but is still part of the family.
The Republic of Ireland (Éire) tolerates her cousin living with her as Ulster is the sibling she is closest to, but tries to keep her self separate from the rest of her cousins.
Each of the countries are wearing their national dress or a stereotypical outfit associated with that country:
England is wearing a fox-hunter outfit as it's stereotypically English and sports the national colours already
Wales is wearing the Welsh National Costume for women.
Scotland is wearing women's Highland dress with the "Spirit of Scotland" tartan (simplified)
Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are wearing the two most common variants of the Irish national costume. Northern Ireland sporting the Ulster tartan, while the Republic of Ireland has an added shawl showing the Irish national tartan.
They are all female as (as far as I can tell) all 5 countries are seen as "Motherlands" rather than "Fatherlands" and the UK sisters are parts of Britannia, an already established female persona of the British Isles, who may also be the sibling's mother?
(Also, no they're not meant to be giantesses, they are just on the (warped and disproportioned) islands as it made sense for a background)

I get that they aren't meant to be giant women but I think that adds to the comedic value
